Rainbows

Things that happen during a rainy winter in Northern CA.

New York

Saturday, December 31st, 2016

My fall work trip. Stepped into the Oculus at the World Trade Center since it is just across the street from my office and it was quite a site, but in general the NY skies and views never disappoint.

Cal Academy Field Trip

Sunday, May 29th, 2016

I helped chaperone 100 second graders to the Cal Academy of Sciences. There was a special emphasis on the rainforest area with the butterflies since the latest science unit was raising silkworms and documenting their metamorphosis to moths. We also took in the penguins, the African hall, some snakes, and the reef/aquarium area where, as always, the jellyfish win the day.

Passing time

Saturday, May 7th, 2016

Some snaps observing how my littlest loves pass time around the house during their quieter moments. And to be clear, this is not how it always is. For every quiet, sweet, absorbed-in-a-project moment, there is one of these distraught, irrational (I can’t open this cabinet so the world is ending), high-decibel level, hair raising moments…

But onto the sweet stuff…

Not quite what I’d intended with the environment of dried beans and dinosaurs, but this one seems to need a lot of sensory input!

And yes, I did manage to get Jonah to nap a few Saturdays ago after a late night at a baseball game and before going to a friend’s house for a sleepover. He used his beloved Allie-gator as an eye-mask.

I was cooking dinner and it had become eerily quiet…when I spied Lilah dumping the entire contents of my wallet, item-by-item, onto the couch.

Congrats, Lee!

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015

One of the many fundraisers at Jonah’s school each year is a contest for t-shirt designs and then a limited print run of shirts with that design for families to order. Lee’s submission was chosen this year.

Below is a rough mock-up that was made for a recent school event.

We are going to donate the original drawing to the school auction later this year. And we have ordered our t-shirts, which we will wear proudly!

Fiber arts

Monday, May 11th, 2015

I usually post Jonah’s art projects over in Art by Jonah, but this one bears cross-posting.  Through his after school program, this semester he takes a fiber arts class with Mr. O, the amazing artist and all around great supervisor who oversees the kindergarteners, but also teaches some extracurricular programs.  We’ve missed Mr. O’s influence this year, so we love that Jonah gets to do weekly projects with him this semester.  And this week he came home with my ultimate favorite art project of the year; Jonah sewed his own bracelet.  It is adorable, vibrant, well constructed, and comfortable to boot.  I want one!!

The boys…

Friday, February 20th, 2015

Jonah and Lee had a day together in San Francisco. They went to the Keith Haring exhibit at the DeYoung Museum, then Ocean Beach for a picnic.

Jonah had our point-and-shoot for the day. His photos are >here<

Some of Lee’s photos are here…
